What is a pallet network and how does it work?

3 March 2021 | Road & Transport

Pallets offer a convenient way to transport goods. The standard size and shape of a pallet make it easy to load on and off vehicles, store and minimises the risks of damage to the items being shipped. It’s no wonder why so many businesses choose palletised freight! Not only that, there are distribution networks that are entirely dedicated to shipping palletised freight, making it one of the most efficient and quick ways to distribute goods.

Simply speaking, a pallet network is the infrastructure of transport that is used to ship goods to different areas. Collectively, it comprises of a collection of haulage companies, regional hubs and smaller depots where pallets are scanned and sorted for forwarding on to different areas. Members of the network usually have their own designated collection and delivery areas, allowing for an easy flow of consignments from shipping to delivery.

One of the most established examples of a network is THE Pallet Network or TPN.

What is TPN?

The Pallet Network

THE Pallet Network (TPN) is a great choice for many logistics companies to work with, as it has around 130 depots across the UK, as well as larger regional hubs in strategic locations. By using these regional hubs, it means there is less mileage and emissions, while also making it more efficient to move goods to any postcode. As well as UK distribution, TPN also covers Ireland and Europe, making it even easier to send consignments further afield.

TPN partners can make use of their sophisticated network and provide customers with many options for their palletised freight, including economy delivery and premium services such as next day delivery. In addition to standard pallets, TPN can handle bulky palletised freight too. With all consignments, there is a zero-tolerance policy on loss or damage, so you know your goods are in the best hands.

TPN uses an advanced IT system called TP Connect, and electronic tracking, so you always know where your consignments are and have peace of mind that security is a priority.
